Garebek Maulud

Sarayta min haramin ila haramin,
Kama sara al-badru fi dajin min al-dzulami.

Kata orang kalau sayang pada Nabi, amalkan sunnahnya. Kalau mahu amal sunnahnya belajarlah hadithnya. Kata orang pula kalau mahu bawa agama, kajilah sirahnya. Adapun kata-kata orang kalau mahu belajar mulalah dari yang akar kemudian barulah dicapai pada dahan rantingnya. Antara kitab-kitab yang paling asas sampai yang paling tinggi
  • Nurul Yakin
  • As-Seerah An-Nabawiyyah, Durus wa 'Ibar - Dr. Mustafa Siba'ie
  • Fiqh Seerah - Dr. Muhammad Said Ramadhan Al-Buthy
  • Tareekh Al-Khulafa'
  • Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum

Price hikes take sweetness out of moulid

It's difficult walking down Clot Bey Street near Ramses in downtown at the moment. The street sells everything from electric appliances to car spare parts and kebab sandwiches relatively cheaply.

But the street is now selling halawet el-moulid or the sweets eaten to celebrate the Prophet Mohamed's (PBUH) birthday today , which is a major festival and public holiday for this predominantly Muslim country of 76 million. In el-Sayyeda Zeinab and Bab el-Shaariya in Islamic Cairo and in around numerous Underground stations, the street vendors are hoping to do brisk business. The traditional sweets accompanying this festival are Aroussat el-Moulid, a doll made of sugar bought by girls, and a toy soldier riding a horse, again made of sugar, for boys. Other sweets include semsemeya, a candy bar made of sesame seeds, nuts and honey. There are also melban (Turkish delight) and nougat. However, the alarming price hikes in most staple commodities are expected to have a major effect sweet sales.Mohssen Ezzat says the prices of the sweets have gone up by about 18 per cent this year. Ezzat, who works as an accountant for a confectionery, adds that even the backstreet factories are not working to full capacity for fear of a recession.Mohssen Zaher, the Chairman of the Nile Public Company for Cooperatives, has said in press remarks that his company has produced about 200 tonnes of sweets for el-moulid and their prices are 15 per cent lower than anyone else's. He adds that many companies have ordered large quantities of their sweets to distribute among their employees. The Arabic name for the Prophet Mohamed's birthday is Moulid el- Nabi and it is celebrated on the twelfth day of the lunar Islamic month of Rabie. The celebrations in Egypt include parades in the city streets, with lights, drummers and the special sweets. Singing, music, prayers, children's games, puppet shows and carnival of food are all part and parcel of this festival, as well as Sufi music

Harapan ada liputan. Tapi meleset.
